Windows 8

Introduction

As a licensed user of Kappris you may install Kappris on Windows 8/8.1 in order to test it for yourself.

By doing so, you agree to inform Kutana of any issues you come across by either:

Always provide a description of the problem you have encountered, together with any supporting information such as error messages (preferably plain text as well as images of dialogs), software versions and actions being taken at the time.

Please try as hard as you can to ensure that the errors you report can be replicated at will and please provide a list of steps required in order to replicate the problem. This will result in us being able to provide a quicker fix for the issue.

Installation on Windows 8

From v1.7.12 onward, the Kappris msi successfully installs the Kappris printer driver on Windows 8 and no special treatment is necessary.

Prior to that, the v1.7.9, v1.7.10 and v1.7.11 Kappris msi will not install the Kappris printer driver on Windows 8. However, Kappris 1.7.9.5546 (and later) were modified to make it possible to install the build on Windows 8 - but you need to follow all these steps.

  1. Ensure that in   Control Panel | Programs and Features | Turn Windows features on or off    you have a tick next to    .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
The msi expects this version of the .NET Framework to be switched on, and the installation will fail unless it is.
  2. Download Kappris test version from 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Unzip the msi into a convenient folder
  4. At an Administrative Command Prompt, run
    msiexec /l*v log01.txt /i <KAPPRIS_MSI> INSTALLDRIVER=0
If you forget the INSTALLDRIVER switch then the installation will fail and roll back leaving no installed files on the target machine.
  5. This final step installs the driver that we deliberately didn't install at step 4. Still in the Administrative Command Prompt, cd to the %ProgramFiles%\Kutana\Kappris folder and run

    KInstaller -i -u

To summarize, for those earlier Kappris releases, Kappris driver installation becomes a step executed after the rest of the msi has completed, rather than as part of the msi sequence.

Apart from these special steps, configuration should be the same as at Windows 7 and earlier.

At uninstall time, the kappris msi will successfully run the KInstaller action to remove the Kappris printer driver, so you can uninstall Kappris safely without having to remember to do anything special.
