Printout goes to the wrong printer

This article describes the scenario whereby Word or Outlook will try to send to a particular print queue but the printout goes to a different queue

Symptoms

PRINTER A is selected as the preferred printer in the Word or Outlook dialog but printout is sent to PRINTER B instead

Printing to PRINTER A in Notepad works properly

Cause

PRINTER B has become embedded in the default DevMode for Windows

Recommended Fix

Delete the Kappris entry from the following keys in the user's registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2
